What is BASIX?
BASIX (Building Sustainability Index) is a NSW-specific assessment tool for both new builds and alterations and additions valued at over $50,000.
The tool sets minimum performance levels for energy, water and thermal comfort of dwellings. These are set against a NSW benchmark and also vary according to the regional climate and the dwelling type.

The BASIX certificate will list the commitments that you have agreed to for your project. It’s important that you review and are comfortable with these commitments. Any changes to your project will need to be reflected in the BASIX certificate as well.
The tool is managed by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment.
Why do I need a BASIX certificate?
Anyone can generate a BASIX report, although only a NatHERS accredited assessor can conduct the thermal assessment portion of the report. This thermal assessment is mandatory for more complex projects.
